GO FOR THE GOLD!

This year’s “I Love to Read Week” has an Olympic theme with the title of “Go for the Gold.”  We will begin with an opening ceremony on Tuesday, February 21st at 8:30.  Students will march into the gym to the Olympic theme song with their class banners.  The student council has created banners that have each class name on them, and each student has contributed something that indicates their favorite story character, a favorite book, etc. to paste on their class banner.  All of the banners will be hung up in the gym.

For the week, we will have a school goal of reading 1,000,000 words for a gold medal, 750,000 words for silver, and 500,000 words for bronze.  At the closing ceremony in the gym on Friday, February 24th at 2:00pm, we will announce how many total words we have read and the school will receive the medal that corresponds to the words read.

PROMOTE THESE THEME DAYS:

Tuesday will be Dress-Up Day (it is picture day)

Wednesday will be USA Day (wear red, white, and blue)

Thursday will be sweats, sports, & shorts day

Friday will be class color day (the same color as your banner)

We will have D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) time every day during the week from 12:00-12:15.  No matter where students are, they should have a good book to read.

Lastly, we will have a large Olympic sign hanging by Mr. Hillstrom’s office.  The student council will take pictures and post them there throughout the week.

PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN TO READ, TAKE ACCELERATED READER (“AR”) TESTS, AND

CARRY THE TORCH FOR “I LOVE TO READ WEEK”!!
